What to expect?

We are a brand new (NOV 2017) martial arts school offering classes to all San Martians.

A typical class is 50-60min.

Beginning students need only their student training uniform (dobok), and an identifiable personal  water bottle.  Every new student, regardless of fitness level or experience is considered a beginner.

The first 10-15 minutes of each class are spent on special body conditioning exercises called Mohm Puhl Ki, which helps students learn to develop strength and flexibility.

After Mohm Puhl Ki, the class begins the exploration and practice of one of the many aspects of Kuk Sool, including basic hand techniques (punching/striking), leg techniques (kicking), joint locking and throwing/grappling techniques, empty hand form (hyung), weapons training, breathing techniques and much more.   Kuk Sool emphasizes Joint Locks and there are 226 individual Joint Lock techniques in the Under Black Belt curriculum.  Joint-locks are very practical for self-defense because they can be applied to a larger and stronger person by a smaller person with great effectiveness!

There is a lot to learn, so we recommend attending at least 2 classes per week.  There is currently no limit to the amount of classes students can attend.

Kuk Sool practice can be enjoyed by nearly anyone, and no prior martial arts experience is necessary.  There will be many challenges in your practice, regardless of your level and experience.  The most important things in your Kuk Sool practice are to remain positive,  have fun, and practice correctly..

"Kuk Sool Won™ covers an extensive variety of martial art techniques. But it is not merely concerned with methods of attack and defense, Kuk Sool Won™ also includes the study of healing techniques and the development of internal power, in addition to the physical training. Mental development is of equal importance in Kuk Sool Won™ and helps to instill self-confidence and self-discipline, a calm self-assurance, and the psychological and spiritual values which are traditionally associated with the character of a martial artist.
Although Kuk Sool Won™ as it is practiced today is relatively new, its roots stretch far and deep to the very beginnings of the Korean people. This early history and the ancient traditions upon which this art is founded should be viewed as important as the physical techniques themselves, for it is only from the understanding and appreciation of these classical roots that one is able to grow as a student of the martial arts."  - WKSA
