Kuk Sool Won™ covers an extensive variety of martial art techniques. But it is not merely concerned with methods of attack and defense, Kuk Sool Won™ also includes the study of healing techniques and the development of internal power, in addition to the physical training. Mental development is of equal importance in Kuk Sool Won™ and helps to instill self-confidence and self-discipline, a calm self-assurance, and the psychological and spiritual values which are traditionally associated with the character of a martial artist.
San Marcos is building its own little Kuk Sool Family and is part of a World Wide Family of Kuk Sool practitioners called The World Kuk Sool Association®!

Mohm Puhl Ki/Body Conditioning
Mohm Puhl Ki is a set of body conditioning exercise practiced at the beginning of every class designed to prepare the tendons, ligaments, muscles and joints for dynamic movement. These exercises work the spine from top to bottom and, once learned, Mohm Puhl Ki makes a great morning routine that can be done at home in about 15 minutes.
Hyung/Connected Movement
Otherwise called “Forms”, these exercises are the cornerstone of Kuk Sool practice. These movements are designed to increase strength, coordination, agility, timing & balance, and overall body awareness, thus teaching someone how to move as a martial artist. Once memorized, these complex movements are continually refined over years and years of practice.
Soo/Technique
There are 3,608 Soo in the Kuk Sool Won™ curriculum. These techniques include Joint Locking & Restraining methods, Body, Hip and Projection Throws, Pressure Points attacks, Grappling defefense & Choking techniques, as well as Animal Style techniques and much much more!
The under Black Belt curriculum alone contains 226 Soo, or Techniques.
Traditional Korean Weapons
Sword, Staff, Cane, Spear, Rope, Fan, Bow & Arrow are just a few of the Korean weapons taught traditionally. Overall, there are 24 weapons taught in Kuk Sool Won™, and there are several variations of each weapon.
For example some Kuk Sool Won ™ Sword practices include: Single Straight Sword, Inverted Sword, Double Sword straight/inverted, as well as Double Short Sword straight/inverted, and we even teach Sword Cutting Technique with a live blade at the appropriate age and Rank.
Nak Bup/Falling & Acrobatics
Learning how to fall safely is an invaluable life skill. The falling principles are designed to teach someone how to distribute their body weight evenly in order to minimize the risk injury or defend against being thrown. In addition, the practice of break-fall techniques conditions the internal organs and connective tissues.
(All exercises are tailored for age and fitness level).
Soo Ki & Johk Sool / Hand & Leg Technique
Striking and pressure point striking methods using various parts of the body: hands, elbows, shoulder, head, foot, knee, hip, etc., are all learned and practiced.
For example, the hand and foot’s ability to change shape, structure, and joint alignment make them perfect for creating a vast variety of striking surfaces, including the knuckles, palms, back of hand, as well as bottom of heel, back of heel, & top of foot,
Dahn Juhn Ki Bub/Meditation & Breathing
We teach Dahn Juhn (center) breathing, or belly breathing. There are specific breathing postures learned at the student level. Learning to control the breath helps every aspect of training, and helps a student to remain calm and centered through the stresses of life.
Yea Eue/Etiquette
The first thing on the curriculum chart is Etiquette. It is the first requirement for students to progress.
Respect for oneself & others cannot be developed without this kind of understanding, and one the the most important things that separates true Traditional Martial Arts, from sport fighting and other methods of general fitness training.
